"I've been doing it for a few years," he said with a shrug, not wanting to
let her see how much the praise meant to him. No one had ever told
him they were impressed with anything he had done, let alone with living by
himself for so long. Just because he was making it work though didn't mean
that it wasn't hard.
"I've lived in homes to and I just... I hate it. I can just barely live
off of what I get here but that's just living. Sometimes it's just... what
if I get caught stealing shampoo? No one steals shampoo for a thrill, the
cops would figure out right away I was living on my own and they'd put me
in a home and I'd run away from that and live on the street so... why not
just live on the street? Now that I think about it... I'd probably live
more comfortably on the street."
